METHUEN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — After disappointing results on Super Tuesday, where she only won one primary, Nikki Haley dropped out of the Republican presidential candidate race on Wednesday.

WBZ NewsRadio’s Shari Small spoke with voters in Massachusetts to hear their reactions to the news.

“I think that it’s good that she’s dropping out because it’s not going to do her any good. It’s time for her to get out,” a man from Dracut told Small.

Another voter from Methuen agreed. “I like Trump," adding that she voted for former president Donald Trump on Super Tuesday.

Now that the former South Carolina governor has left the GOP race, Trump is the last major Republican candidate for president, and he is on track to win the necessary delegates to earn the nomination later this month.

Haley served as the ambassador to the U.N. from 2017 to 2018 during Trump's presidency.

Some voters were not as enthusiastic about Haley's decision. A man from Boston said, “It’s a true bummer.” He had voted for Haley.

“I wish she could have brought the fight and fought [Trump] and probably been the next president.”

Asked if he thinks Haley should endorse Trump now that she has dropped out of the race, he said no.

In her speech announcing the end to her bid for president, Haley did not endorse Trump’s campaign, saying, “It is now up to Donald Trump to earn the votes of those in our party and beyond it who did not support him. And I hope he does that.”

Some voters thought that Haley should throw her support behind the former president. One man from Methuen said that he believes she should endorse Trump.

Reacting to Haley dropping out of the race, he shared, “I never really liked her in the first place. I’m just going for Trump for the Republican Party.”

A Democrat also spoke with Small. “I’m sorry to see her go. I think it was financial reasons, obviously. And there’s a lot more states” that have yet to have their primaries, he explained. He voted for President Joe Biden in the primary on Tuesday.

“We need two parties. The Republican Party has cancer right now, and it’s got to be removed,” he added, referring to Trump supporters and the rise of MAGA Republicans. “It’s a sad state for our country.”

Haley became the first woman to win a Republican primary contest. She beat Trump in Vermont on Super Tuesday and in the District of Columbia on Sunday.
