One Person Dead After Three-Alarm Fire In Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) One person is dead after a three-alarm fire broke out at a multi-story apartment building on Chester Street.

According to multiple witness reports, a loud explosion was heard followed by a heavy fire at around 4:41 a.m. Tuesday morning.  

''Approximately 65 Firefighters from 9 engines, 5 ladders, 3 squads, the Rescue, & command & support units operated at the fire. Somerville Fire companies also assisted at the fire,'' a spokesperson for the Cambridge Fire Department said.

The sole victim of the fire was a man in his 50s. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Red Cross has been on scene to assist displaced residents from the fire. The building will be habitable after a cleanup, as the fire was contained to one unit.
