BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — United Airlines is raising its checked-bag fees.

Customers can expect a $10 increase on the first and second checked bags and an additional $50 for the third bag. Some travelers, like Michelle, who was flying back home to Texas from Boston, say they are feeling the financial strain.

"It was $40," she said. "I think it used to be $35 or something like that."

The increase follows JetBlue Airlines' price hike in response to rising fuel prices that the company attributed to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

"Oil is a big part of their cost, so I think they need to do that," one traveler said. "Whether the cost increase at the crude oil level is necessary at all is another question, but I think what the airlines are doing is fair."

The discussion has others rethinking their travel budgets.

"For most people, it's already expensive enough traveling, so another $10 to $50 is significant," another traveler said.

The price of fuel has increased by at least 50% since the U.S.-Israeli regime initiated the attack on Iran.
