Blast Of Cold Air In Boston To Wipe Away Memorial Day Warmth

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Tuesday begins with warm, muggy weather. Don't get used to it.

Temperatures are set to plummet Tuesday afternoon in Greater Boston, as a cold front moves in from the off the ocean. The city will reach a high of about 78 in the mid-morning before quickly falling off in the afternoon to about 57.

The phenomenon is called a "backdoor" cold front, because this cold front will sweep in from the east, when cold fronts usually come from the west.

At about 5:00 PM Tuesday afternoon, the difference between the coast and inland will be particularly stark: the National Weather Service says it could be below 60 degrees in Boston while being close to 90 just 80 miles west in Springfield.

Temps will decrease well into the 50's overnight with a rainy, cool couple of days.
