BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — As the saying goes in New England, March comes "In like a lion, and goes out like a lamb." But the last part of the phrase sometimes doesn't come to pass.

A wintery mix will blow through the state beginning overnight and into Thursday morning. Sleet and freezing rain are expected in the Berkshires and in Central Massachusetts in places like Fitchburg and Ayer. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service, expecting slippery roads in those areas on Thursday morning and up to a tenth of an inch of ice.

The Service said the Berkshires should get hit harder, with up to an inch of snow and sleet, and up to a quarter-inch of ice. Power outages, downed trees, and other damage are possible in Western Mass.

Closer to Boston, temperatures should hover in the high 30's and low 40's, with a bitter cold rain on Thursday.
