Common Sense Soap recalled "approximately 33,899 pounds of beef tallow that was processed, packaged, and labeled on behalf of Lady May Tallow without the benefit of federal inspection" on February 12 due to widespread confusion surrounding the label.

According to the United States Food Safety & Inspection Service, the products were "produced between Oct. 16, 2024 and Feb. 6, 2025," and were distributed across the U.S. including stores in Massachusetts.

The recalled products were not inspected by USDA and are not safe for consumption despite the nutrition label printed on the side. The label sparked confusion among customers as the presence of nutrition information made it seem safe to consume. However, the company "does not possess a federal grant of inspection and is not authorized to produce products intended for human consumption."

No adverse effects have been reported as of Friday (February 14). Officials are urging customers who have the product in their possession to dispose of it immediately and avoid consumption.
