Should Boston have safe injection sites?

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh discussed his positive opinion on safe injection sites at the Harm Reduction Commission yesterday.

Walsh is a member of the Harm Reduction Commission, which was created in 2018 by Gov. Charlie Baker.

Walsh told reporters about his trip to Canada to check out safe injection sites.

“The way it works in Canada, it’s illegal drugs on the street, illegal drugs in the hallway, but once you get into the safe consumption room, they’re still illegal, but it’s OK to use them there,” Walsh said.

“I mean, my first impression when I first heard about it was, ‘Oh my god, this is something that I could never support.’ After seeing them first-hand, it’s a completely different impression I have.”

Do you support Walsh's proposal to bring safe injection sites to Boston?
