Should the federal voting age be lowered to 16?

Rep. Ayanna Pressley introduced an amendment to the House that would lower the voting age from 18 to 16 in federal elections.

The Massachusetts Democrat made the proposal as her first amendment since winning election last year.

“Across this nation, young people are leading the way — from gun violence, to climate change, to the future of work — they are organizing, mobilizing, and calling us to action,” Pressley said in a statement.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the bill would not be brought to the floor for a vote in the upper chamber.
