Two Louisville police officers have been shot during protests after the announcement that no charges would be filed against the three officers in the death of Breonna Taylor.
Interim Louisville Metro Chief Robert Schroeder said one of the officers is alert and stable, and the other is undergoing surgery. A suspect is in custody.
One officer was shot in the abdomen, below a bulletproof vest, while the other officer was shot in a thigh, sources told the Courier-Journal of Louisville.
"I am very concerned about the safety of our officers," Chief Schroeder told a reporter. "I think the safety of our officers and the community we serve is of utmost importance."
Taylor was shot and killed in the crossfire when her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, allegedly opened fire on police officers who entered her apartment on March 13. Walker has stated he believed the officers were intruders according to Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron.
President Donald Trump tweeted, “Praying for the two police officers that were shot tonight in Louisville, Kentucky.”
Trump said he spoke with Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, tweeting, “we are prepared to work together, immediately upon request!”
