Speaker Pelosi clashes with CNN's Wolf Blitzer over COVID-19 relief bill

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi clashed with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer over the COVID-19 relief bill.

She accused Blitzer of being a “Republican apologist” in the heated interview on The Situation Room.

Blitzer questioned the congresswoman on why she is holding up President Donald Trump's $1.8trillion COVID-19 relief bill.

“As you know, there are Americans who are being evicted from their homes. They can’t pay their rent. Many Americans are waiting in food lines for the first time in their lives,” Blitzer noted at the beginning of the interview with Pelosi. “Can you look them in the eye, Madam Speaker, and explain why you don’t want to accept the president’s latest stimulus offer?”

“I don't know why you're always an apologist — and many of your colleagues, apologists for the Republican position,” Pelosi responded.

“We know the problem out there,” Blitzer interrupted, “but there are millions of Americans who have lost their jobs. They can't pay the rent. Kids need the food—"

“That's right, and that's what we're trying to get done,” Pelosi fired back.

The hostile interview carried on until the very end, when Blitzer attempted to wrap up the interview.

"We'll leave it on the note that you're not right on this, Wolf, and I hate to say that to you," Pelosi told the CNN anchor. "But I feel confident about it and I feel confident about my colleagues and I feel confident in my chairs."

Blitzer responded, "It's not about me, it's about millions of Americans who can't put food on the table, who can't pay the rent, and who are having trouble getting by."

"And we represent them, we represent them," Pelosi said.

"As we say, don't let perfect be the enemy of the good," Blitzer responded.

"It is nowhere near perfect ... we're not even close to the good," Pelosi shot back. "Thank you for your sensitivity to our constituents' needs."

"I am sensitive to them because I see them on the street begging for food, begging for money," the CNN anchor said.

"Have you fed them?" Pelosi blurted out. "We feed them, we feed them."
